Where’s My Refund

In or Out Tax Services, Inc. prepares and submits tax returns, but we do not have access to the IRS or Oregon Department of Revenue’s databases. The best thing to do is to check your refund status online.

To check refund status for the IRS:

1. Go to https://www.irs.gov/refunds and click on the “Check My Refund Status” button. Or download the mobile app called “IRS2Go”.

2. You will need the following information:

  • The social security number of the taxpayer on the tax return. If you were listed as “spouse”, then your spouse would be the taxpayer. If you are unsure who was listed first, you can find that information on the first page of form 1040.
  • Filing status. This can be found on page 1 of form 1040. Just above where your first and last name are, there is a box called “Filing Status”. Your filing status will be marked by a little “x” on form 1040.
  • The amount of your refund. This can be found on page two of your form 1040 on line 35a. Or, you can look on the first page of the client copy. Our summary letter provides you with the amounts of any refunds due to you.

3. Click “submit”. The status of your return should be on the next page.

If you have any questions, please contact the IRS directly for more information. Their number is 1-800-829-1040.

To check refund status for Oregon:

1.       Go to https://revenueonline.dor.oregon.gov/ and choose “Where’s my Refund?” in the box on the left-hand side just below the picture of the mountain/water.

2.       You will need the following information:

  • ID Type: this is a drop-down menu. For a return that is married filing jointly, head of household, single, married filing separately, or qualifying widower, please select the “Social Security Number” ID type. For those who have an ITIN instead of a Social Security Number, please choose “Individual Taxpayer ID Number”. If this is regarding a refund on a Partnership, S-Corp or C-Corp return, please choose “Employer Identification Number”.
  • Type in the corresponding number to the ID type. Example: If you chose “Social Security Number”, type in the taxpayer’s social security number. If you are unsure if you or your spouse is the taxpayer, check who is listed first on the first page of Oregon form 40.
  • The amount of your refund. This can be found on page three of Oregon form 40, line 49.
  • Filing Status: This is a drop-down menu. This can be found on page 1 of Oregon Form 40, just under where your mailing address is listed. There will be a little “x” in the box next to your filing status.

3.       Click “next”. The status of your refund should be on the next page.

4.       If you have any questions, please contact the Oregon Department of Revenue directly. Their number is 503-378-4988. Choose option 7 to be connected with a representative. Then choose option 1 for income tax.
